This Blog Has Moved!

I moved my blog on New Years Day, 2010. If you haven't come to see my new blog, head on over HERE now. This blog will be available for archive reading but I won't be posting here anymore. I hope you'll join me at my new bloggy home!

p.s. I am slowly but surely moving all the blogs I follow over to the new blog, so if I haven't come to visit you for a while, my advice is to leave a comment on my new blog, so I don't miss you in the shuffle!

About Me

My photo
I am a bereaved mother and wife. I began this blog to help me look for the "good things" in life after my daughter, "Babybear", died in July 2005. Three years later, her daddy, my husband, "Bear", died in November 2008. (You'll find a link to their stories on my blog) And now, as difficult as it is, I continue to look for the good things in my life as I learn my new normal with my pup, "Furrybear", at my side. And the angels on my shoulder...

I ♥ Faces: Self-Portraits

This week on I faces, the theme is self portraits.

The two categories are adults (a self-portrait) and kids (a self-portrait of you and your kid(s).)

This week I decided to enter both categories.

You can click the photos to make them larger.

You may recognize this photo. It's the one I use as my Blogger Profile Pic. The only difference is that this is the original photo before I drew the angel on the one in my profile.

It was taken in September 2006, after my husband and I went for a walk. When we got home I decided to take a picture of myself to show how much I missed my little girl. Incidentally this is one of my favorite photos of myself, and I am considering this to be one of the photos for my wall project in my living room. I already have the photos of my husband, daughter and pup, I'm having a harder time picking a photo of myself. What do you think, is this a good enough photo to blow up into 8x10 for the whole world (or, really, just those who come to my house) to see?

I took this photo this morning. It is me holding a photo of my daughter, who died in July 2005. I know this isn't really what the hostesses of I Faces wanted us to do but I still wanted to do this. I debated last week to enter a photo that I had of my daughter's photo with tulips for the children's category last week, but in the end I didn't. I also could have shown a photo of my daughter's teddy bear Easter-Egg Hunting last year. But then you all would've thought I was nuts. (I am, by the way, but I don't want you to think so!)

Anyway, you can see the reflection of the camera in the photo which proves it really is a self portrait even though I'm not looking at the camera. It is a bit blurry because of how I was holding the camera and when I clicked it, it shook a bit, but I still thought it was a good photo and I have no idea how to fix blurry pics.

Thanks for looking.

I think that you did the right thing. I am sure that no one would argue the validity or importance of these entries.

I agree that both photos should be hung in your home. The photos tell about such an important part of your life story. They are haunting as well as very lovely.

Great pictures, Ter! Never be afraid to express yourself. That is what photography is all about, expressions. And everyone's are different.

I'm glad you entered these. BabyBear is your child, so this definitely qualifies. And so much emotion is communicated through your body language here, it makes for a really appealing image. Sending you a ((hug))

I really like your portraits. You have a unique way of capturing things with your camera (another reason why I think you need to take that photography class!)

You have managed to do what most of us strive for but don't achieve, capture your emotions on your face, while making yourself look good on camera, even though it's not a "pretty" emotion you are capturing. I think you have a gift for this Ter!

Absolutely hang them both in your home...they are a beautiful representation of your love for your child. Your "kids" entry is so emotional and wonderful at the same time. I love that you entered it!

Just got through reading your daughter's story and it makes the pictures even more beautiful. What a timeless tribute of your love for her.

(I am deaf and suffered through preeclampsia too - I am very sorry for your loss and will rejoice when we are all reunited with our loved ones)

When I "met" you a week or two ago, I read through your blog and wept. I am fighting tears again. These pictures have meaning, deeper than any of us can fully appreciate. I love the emotion, I love the love behind them, and I love that you are willing to share them with us.

(And I was reading a comment you made on Rachel's blog about an ASL interpretor for photography school. My younger sister, who is hearing, taught at the TX School for the Deaf Middle School. Though she isn't in a place where she can do interpreting, how cool would that be? She could go to school with you and then tell me all she had learned about photography. :) Good luck!)

Both pictures are precious. And yes, I think the first picture would be beautiful blown up into an 8 x 10, and maybe do another picture of you with your pup? :)
God bless,
Michelle

Both photo are good. But the second one is touching, tearful! I can't even imagine the feelings you must still be dealing with! But capturing these moments with a camera is part of holding onto those special moments!

YES! For sure your first picture is wall-worthy. There are "good" pictures. And then there are "important" pictures. Your first one is both.

Blessings to you,
