This Blog Has Moved!

I moved my blog on New Years Day, 2010. If you haven't come to see my new blog, head on over HERE now. This blog will be available for archive reading but I won't be posting here anymore. I hope you'll join me at my new bloggy home!

p.s. I am slowly but surely moving all the blogs I follow over to the new blog, so if I haven't come to visit you for a while, my advice is to leave a comment on my new blog, so I don't miss you in the shuffle!

About Me

My photo
I am a bereaved mother and wife. I began this blog to help me look for the "good things" in life after my daughter, "Babybear", died in July 2005. Three years later, her daddy, my husband, "Bear", died in November 2008. (You'll find a link to their stories on my blog) And now, as difficult as it is, I continue to look for the good things in my life as I learn my new normal with my pup, "Furrybear", at my side. And the angels on my shoulder...

Thursday Thirteen - Recipes

13 recipes we've tried lately

1. Pudding Cookies

We made two batches, one with chocolate pudding and small in size, one with vanilla pudding & almond slices and larger in size. We liked the vanilla one better.

2. Spinach Salad with Apples and Mustard Vinaigrette

Neither of us are big raw spinach fans (we love it cooked) so we did not love this. However, we decided to try it with leafy lettuce the next time and we found we liked it better with the lettuce. We also used feta cheese instead of blue cheese.

3. Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup

We enjoyed this and will make it again. A very unique flavor.

4. Maple Glaze Squash

Really enjoyed the flavor. However, next time we will cut it up into pieces after it's finished in the oven and finish it on the stove with the sauce so the flavor will cover more of the squash.

5. Beef Stew

Have been looking for a beef stew recipe from scratch, not those little packets of stew mix you buy at the store. We really enjoyed this and the butternut squash was a nice touch. We used potatoes instead of parsnips and no wine. Two cans of beef broth did the trick.

6. Salsa Chicken

Enjoyed it. Will try it again.

7. Zesty Coleslaw

Liked it. But still want to experiment with other coleslaw recipes before we commit to this one.

8. Almond Chicken Stirfry

Tasted too similar to another recipe that we have with exception of the pineapple juice.

9. Spaghetti Squash

We've made this a few times now, and it's so good!

10. Shrimp Scampi

Not my favorite shrimp recipe, but my husband loves it.

11. Hummus

Makes for a great snack or part of appetizer meal.

12. Creamy Spinach Pasta

One of our new favorites. We use creame cheese instead of blue cheese and we sprinkle it with feta too. Sometimes we add sun dried tomatoes as well. YUM.

13. Praline Sundae Topping

A yummy way to finish off a good meal!

my boyfriend loves hummus! I'm going to have to check out these pasta recipes too. :)

I sent an email to you, but I got it back. (that's happened alot in regards to blogger) Anyway, that week over week calendar I have on my fridge is basically cardboard with dry erase on top. I got mine at wal-mart about 5 years ago, I think I paid like 7 dollars for it. Even though I love it, I'd wait for it to go on sale.

Some of your recipes sound fantastic! Thanks for sharing! Also, thanks for coming over and commenting on my blog. I'm so sorry for your aching heart.

I have heard of the book that you mentioned (TCOYF) and I've heard great things about it, but I'm not sure if it would help my specific problem (diminished egg reserve). Maybe I'll see if a friend has it that I could borrow. Thanks :)

Wow, I really like the sound of a lot of that stuff. Cookies are always good! Roasted red peppers are awesome and I love tomato soup so we'll have to try that one. Beef stew is always nice once in a while and I'd use potatoes also. Shrimp scampi...oh man, I could eat that all day!! Hummus is great also, especially homemade...and lastly I would love to try that Creamy Spinach Pasta! Thanks for sharing, Ter!!

My mom's recipe originally called for bibb lettuce, so you're not alone in this. I tend to like the raw spinach and love the extra vitamins but bibb is a great choice too.

Ter, you're making me so hungry! I want to come over for dinner sometime. You always have the best sounding recipes. :)

As for the binders (thanks for the compliments, btw!) - you can use regular paper or cardstock. Open them up fully and bend backwards a bit. This helps open up the "pockets" so you can slide in the sheet easier. I usually make my sheets a 1/16 - 1/8 of a inch less than the width of the pocket. As long as you slide them in slowly, they don't wrinkle.

My DH and I are off of beef and all mammal meet, but I'm very curious about some of these recipes. I love Hummus and make my own, simple version. I'm going to investigate this recipe you have. Thanks for sharing all of these...keep it up!
