This Blog Has Moved!

I moved my blog on New Years Day, 2010. If you haven't come to see my new blog, head on over HERE now. This blog will be available for archive reading but I won't be posting here anymore. I hope you'll join me at my new bloggy home!

p.s. I am slowly but surely moving all the blogs I follow over to the new blog, so if I haven't come to visit you for a while, my advice is to leave a comment on my new blog, so I don't miss you in the shuffle!

About Me

My photo
I am a bereaved mother and wife. I began this blog to help me look for the "good things" in life after my daughter, "Babybear", died in July 2005. Three years later, her daddy, my husband, "Bear", died in November 2008. (You'll find a link to their stories on my blog) And now, as difficult as it is, I continue to look for the good things in my life as I learn my new normal with my pup, "Furrybear", at my side. And the angels on my shoulder...

Book Review: Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.

Eat, Pray, Love is the author's account of a year spent traveling to Italy, India and Indonesia after a difficult divorce, in hopes of finding herself.

The book is written in three sections. Italy/Eat, India/Pray and Indonesia/Love.

When I first picked up the book and started to read, the author is in Italy. I found this section to be enjoyable and made my way through it quickly. For some reason, I got hungry too.

The second section, when the author is in India, I felt went much slower than the first section. Part of this could be because I don't quite relate to the religious aspect of it, but also, this section went slowly for the author as well as she spends the entire section in a monastery.

Finally, in the third section, Indonesia, the pace picked up again, much to my relief. In this section, the author is searching for love. Pure love.

I had been told by several people that I should read this book, with the hint that I would benefit from doing so. While I'm not exactly sure what the hype was all about, I am still glad to have read this book, and enjoyed it for the most part. I don't think anything in this book actually applied to my own life but it was still interesting to read.

Conclusion: Good book, not great. Maybe more beneficial to those looking for spiritual guidance.

I loved that book. I think I would definitely read it again. The Eat section was my least favorite.

I've heard great reviews about this book, nice to see a different side. What kinds of books do you normally read?

I wrote a review about it on my blog, and I agreed with you!

We read it for book club, and we enjoyed it, but weren't in love with it.

Wow, Ter! I think I could have written the same review of that book as you! I got it from a student for Christmas two years ago and I breezed through the Italy chapter (maybe because I LOVE food & I've always wanted to go there) and I ended up stopping reading in the India chapter...I just couldn't get through it...maybe I'll have to give it another go (from the beginning??)

I loved how she was able just to drop everything and do exactly what she wanted for a whole year. I think that's what appealed to me the most about this book. :)

I had this book at my house for months. I read all but the last 50 pages or so. The first chapter, I was so into it but I was feeling the way she was about organized religion. I thought I was going to love the book but ended up feeling "meh".

I saw her on Oprah and have heard good things about the book, but something bugs me about her.

Great review. I felt the same way about it. Loved Italy! India... not so much.

Yeah, I've heard good and bad about this book. Haven't gone ahead and read it yet though.

I read this last year and I really enjoyed it at the time. Though now that time has gone by, I don't feel as fondly about it as I did at the time.
