A young Bird Jackson struggles to get through her childhood despite her troubled parents and poverty.
After her father dies, Bird, her sister and her mother move to a new home. There she meets Miss Zora, who provides her relief from her life and hope for her future.
I found this book to be well written, but it brought forth anger in me when it came to how the mother treated her daughters.
In googling for an image of the book, I see that this has been made into a movie as well.
I would recommend this book, however, it was not a favorite of mine.
About Me
- Ter
- I am a bereaved mother and wife. I began this blog to help me look for the "good things" in life after my daughter, "Babybear", died in July 2005. Three years later, her daddy, my husband, "Bear", died in November 2008. (You'll find a link to their stories on my blog) And now, as difficult as it is, I continue to look for the good things in my life as I learn my new normal with my pup, "Furrybear", at my side. And the angels on my shoulder...

Hmm.... sounds interesting. The name "Bird" reminds me of another movie that I can never remember the name of. I always want to say Sweet Home Alabama, but that's not it.
Oh well... glad you enjoyed the book. Yeah, I get angry too when I read/ hear about people who don't treat their children right. Or, when it's one of my students and child protective services won't do anything about it. That REALLY irks me!
But I digress.... thanks for sharing another book review...I love reading them :)
