This Blog Has Moved!

I moved my blog on New Years Day, 2010. If you haven't come to see my new blog, head on over HERE now. This blog will be available for archive reading but I won't be posting here anymore. I hope you'll join me at my new bloggy home!

p.s. I am slowly but surely moving all the blogs I follow over to the new blog, so if I haven't come to visit you for a while, my advice is to leave a comment on my new blog, so I don't miss you in the shuffle!

About Me

My photo
I am a bereaved mother and wife. I began this blog to help me look for the "good things" in life after my daughter, "Babybear", died in July 2005. Three years later, her daddy, my husband, "Bear", died in November 2008. (You'll find a link to their stories on my blog) And now, as difficult as it is, I continue to look for the good things in my life as I learn my new normal with my pup, "Furrybear", at my side. And the angels on my shoulder...

A Complaint About Horse Poop

Yes, you heard me right. Horse poop.

We dog owners have to pick up our dogs lovely "gifts" when we take them for a walk. It is law to do so. If you're caught letting your dog doing his business and not picking it up, you could be fined for it.

There is a park right behind my house. My back gate opens to the park. We sometimes like to take our dog out that way so she can get a little more exercise on the retractable leash than she would just walking along the streets, especially now that it's getting colder and it's getting darker earlier, so we're not going for as many long walks.

Anyway, on the other side of the park (which is really just a green space) there is a ranch. When we bought this house, we mostly bought it because of the view and no buildings to look at when we were outside our backyard. It's quite a treat for us since we are still in the city limits.

The problem is that sometimes the people at the ranch will ride their horses through the park. I really don't mind this, it is nice to see the horses closer up. However, as the title of this post indicates, the horses leave behind not-so-little gifts throughout the park.

And at the risk of getting very graphic here, these "gifts" have alot of grass in them.... and to make matters worse... my dog loves clumps of grass... and, you guessed it, she wants to eat and play with the horse poop!

I am considering to call animal control. I don't really know what, if anything, they'll do about it but I've had to call them in the past when my neighbors were getting their cats to poop in our yard (prior to getting our pup).

What would you do?

I wonder if hte horse laws have ever been updated? Back in the day you would not have been required to pick up your "road apples" they had people to do that.

But in these modern times, I'm not sure that they've ever updated those laws!

I will have to email you a funny story about Animal Control.

The more I find out about Winnipeg Laws, the funnier it is. Like our Red Light policy. You find out if you delve into traffic laws that we haven't updated our policies since the 30s. Hence, the city still has a mandate to slow traffic down, and the main reason for that is to allow for horse traffic and keep people with horses safe on the roads. That's why we have so many lights on roads, with no traffic flow. Stupid, isn't it?
